Freedom Wars Remastered: Enhanced Gameplay and New Features Revealed

A new trailer for Freedom Wars Remastered showcases improved gameplay and control systems, offering a fresh look at this dystopian action RPG. The game retains its core loop of battling colossal mechanical creatures (Abductors), harvesting resources, upgrading gear, and completing diverse missions. Remastered enhancements include significantly upgraded visuals, faster-paced combat, a streamlined crafting system, a challenging new difficulty mode, and inclusion of all original customization DLC.

Launching January 10th for PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC, Freedom Wars Remastered builds upon the original PS Vita title. Its development, in part, stemmed from Capcom's decision to shift the Monster Hunter franchise to Nintendo consoles, prompting Sony to create a comparable experience. While the futuristic setting differs, the gameplay shares a striking resemblance: players engage in intense battles against Abductors, collect their parts, and upgrade their equipment for progressively stronger attacks.

Bandai Namco's new trailer vividly demonstrates the gameplay. It introduces the protagonist, a "Sinner" condemned for the crime of being born, thrust into a world depleted of resources. The Sinner's sentence involves undertaking crucial missions for their Panopticon (city-state), ranging from civilian rescues and Abductor eliminations to securing control systems. These missions can be tackled solo or cooperatively online.

Freedom Wars Remastered: Gameplay Enhancements Detailed

The trailer highlights several key improvements in Freedom Wars Remastered. Visually, the game receives a substantial upgrade, supporting 4K resolution (2160p) at 60 FPS on PS5 and PC. PS4 players will enjoy 1080p at 60 FPS, while the Switch version maintains 1080p at 30 FPS. Beyond visuals, the gameplay is faster and more fluid, incorporating enhanced movement speed and attack cancellation mechanics.

Crafting and upgrading have been completely revamped. The interfaces are now more intuitive, and modules can be freely attached and detached. A new module synthesis feature allows players to enhance modules using resources obtained from rescued citizens. Finally, a challenging "Deadly Sinner" difficulty mode caters to veteran players, and all customization DLC from the original PS Vita release is included from the outset.
