| Palworld Free-to-Play Conversations Dismissed, Stays Buy-to-Play |
Following reports of potential model changes, Palworld developer Pocketpair has officially confirmed that the game will remain a buy-to-play title, dismissing speculation of a shift to free-to-play (F2P) or Games-as-a-Service (GaaS).
Palworld Remains Buy-to-Play
Future Plans: DLC and Skins Under Consideration
In a recent Twitter (X) statement, the Palworld team definitively stated, "We are not changing our game’s business model; it will remain buy-to-play and not F2P or GaaS." This clarifies previous reports stemming from an interview where Pocketpair explored various future possibilities for the game.
The developers acknowledged past discussions about the game's long-term growth and the challenges in finding the optimal path. However, they emphasized that a F2P/GaaS model is not the chosen direction. They reassured players that their feedback is valued and that the current model aligns with player preferences. The team stated that Palworld’s design wasn't initially conceived for a F2P/GaaS structure, making a significant adaptation too demanding.
The statement also addressed concerns raised by earlier reports, offering an apology for any resulting anxiety. Pocketpair reiterated its commitment to delivering the best possible Palworld experience, thanking players for their ongoing support.
The developer clarified that the interview sparking the initial reports was conducted several months prior. While CEO Takuro Mizobe previously hinted at future content updates, including new Pals and raid bosses, the recent statement focuses on the solidified buy-to-play model. Future development will be supported by potential DLC and skin releases, with further details to be announced later.
Finally, rumors of a PS5 version appearing in a Tokyo Game Show 2024 (TGS 2024) announcement list were acknowledged. However, the developer cautioned that this list shouldn't be considered definitive.
