Capcom is optimizing Monster Hunter Wilds for improved performance and reduced GPU requirements before launch. This follows feedback from the initial open beta test, which revealed performance issues on PC.

Addressing Performance Concerns

A recent announcement on the German Monster Hunter Twitter (X) account highlighted performance improvements, specifically showcasing smoother gameplay on PS5's updated Prioritize Framerate mode. Similar optimizations are underway for the PC version, with a focus on lowering the recommended GPU requirements. The current minimum GPU requirements are an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT. Capcom aims to make the game accessible to a wider range of hardware.

A free benchmarking tool is also planned to help players assess their system's compatibility.

Open Beta Test 2 and Future Improvements

The initial beta test in October and November 2024 revealed significant performance issues, including low-polygon models and frame rate drops. Capcom acknowledged these problems, stating that improvements have been made since the beta. A second open beta test, scheduled for February 7-10 and 14-17, will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, featuring new monsters. Whether these recent optimizations will be included in the second beta remains to be seen.

The ongoing optimization efforts suggest that Monster Hunter Wilds will launch in a more polished state than its initial beta. The reduction in GPU requirements will be a welcome change for many players.
