MindsEye Devs Rush to Improve Game After Mixed Steam Reviews
The developer of MindsEye has acknowledged player concerns about performance issues and is actively working on improvements, following a wave of critical Steam user reviews.
Build A Rocket Boy's debut game launched on June 10th and has received a 'Mixed' user rating on Steam, where it reached a peak concurrent player count of 3,302. Many negative reviews highlight significant performance problems affecting PC gamers, alongside reports of various bugs, glitches, and odd NPC behavior.

In response, Build A Rocket Boy posted a statement on the MindsEye subreddit, confirming its engineering team is working tirelessly to enhance performance. The studio announced that details for Patch 3 will be shared shortly.
The full statement reads:
We extend our sincere thanks to all the pioneers who joined us on launch day. We recognize the current minimum specifications are demanding, but our engineering team is working around the clock to optimize performance for mainstream hardware and consoles by integrating the latest improvements from Unreal Engine V5.6. We will share the timing for Patch 3, which includes these enhancements, within the next 24 hours. Beyond the main campaign, we are also eager to hear your feedback on Build.Mindseye.
MindsEye, led by former Rockstar North veteran Leslie Benzies, faced a challenging development cycle. Just last week, Build A Rocket Boy advised fans to wait for the official launch rather than play early physical copies that had circulated.
"We want everyone to experience the story simultaneously on day one, without any preconceptions," Build A Rocket Boy stated regarding the early copies. "This means waiting for the official release date to play the game for the first time."
The mention of "bias" in the studio's comment led to speculation it was referencing remarks from co-CEO Mark Gerhard, who had previously suggested a "concerted effort" by paid accounts or bots to "trash the game and the studio" on social media.
IGN later asked Hakan Abrak, CEO of Hitman developer and MindsEye publisher IO Interactive, about this claim. He responded: "I don't know. I don't believe that. I don't believe that. I just think the game should speak for itself on June the 10th."
Furthermore, physical copies of MindsEye required a significant "major" day-one update to implement "key improvements for the intended gameplay experience and to ensure all characters are represented at their best."
Just days before launch, the departure of Build A Rocket Boy's Chief Legal Officer and Chief Financial Officer was confirmed, raising concerns within the studio's growing community.

Steam concurrent player numbers don't reflect the full picture, as MindsEye is also available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, meaning its actual player count is higher than Valve's platform suggests.
Priced at $59.99, MindsEye launches with a tightly crafted linear story campaign and a single-player free roam mode. The initial offering includes several missions: a horde mode called "Destruction Site Shootout," and two combat missions titled "Honor Amongst Thieves" and "Friendly Fire." Players also have access to six standard races, six checkpoint races, and three drone races. The premium pass provides an additional horde mode mission and an exotic cosmetics pack.
Post-launch, Build A Rocket Boy plans to deliver a steady monthly stream of fresh premium content to ensure MindsEye remains a dynamic and expanding experience. This includes new missions, challenges, and game assets. The studio stated that this continuous flow of official content, combined with top-tier community creations, will keep players engaged for years to come.
The studio also confirmed its 2025 content roadmap. Summer will bring community updates and new missions, fall will introduce new single-player modes, multiplayer, and more missions, and winter will feature free roam updates and additional missions. Premium pass holders will receive extra missions and new packs throughout the year.
